Himalayan Tectonic Belt: Morlet Wavelet Variation and Seismic Harmony

نویسندگان

چکیده

Abstract Morlet wavelet analysis is a method of studying the periodic spectrum non-stationary physical signals and applied to Himalayan Tectonic Belt explore whether there any seismic periodicity, possibility harmony or commonality properties among activities different zones. The earthquake sequence during 1951–2016 with magnitudes M ≥ 6.0 analysed. Wavelet non-periodicity for Centre zone suggests non-uniform spatial–temporal distribution movement between plates which may relate rare great earthquakes, while periodicities west east zones suggest concurrence adjustment tectonic east- west-end regions relative its central core. These three collectively form Belt. This contains periodicity about five years activity that tests successfully 95% confidence statistic. Borrowing from concept musical harmony, this significant harmonic reflects Belt’s pervasive stress an overall continent–continent plate convergence. also reveals Pamir–Hindu Kush Zone be engaged as big new family: Plus. It demonstrated whole has common property again being 5-year periodicity. indicates unified structure pervading active permeating seismicity.

Geomorphometric features and tectonic activities in sub-Himalayan thrust belt, Pakistan, from satellite data

The sub-Himalayan thrust belt is an active thrust wedge which progresses southward over the northdipping Indian plate. The north–south compression resulted in severe deformation of sedimentary rocks in this belt. Distinct thrust geometries and topography have evolved under the interaction between tectonic and erosional environments. To better understand the relationship between tectonics and to...

Himalayan Metamorphism and Its Tectonic Implications

The Himalayan range exposes a spectacular assemblage of metamorphic rocks from the midand deep crust that have fostered numerous models of how the crust responds to continental collisions. Recent petrogenetically based petrologic and geochronologic studies elucidate processes with unprecedented resolution and critically test models that range from continuum processes to one-time events. The pro...

An Algorithm for the Continuous Morlet Wavelet Transform

This article consists of a brief discussion of the energy density over time or frequency that is obtained with the wavelet transform. Also an efficient algorithm is suggested to calculate the continuous transform with the Morlet wavelet. The energy values of the Wavelet transform are compared with the power spectrum of the Fourier transform. Useful definitions for power spectra are given. The f...

QRS Complex Detection Using Combination of Mexican-hat Wavelet and Complex Morlet Wavelet

QRS complex detection is usually the most important step for automated electrocardiogram (ECG) analysis. In this paper, we present a new approach of QRS complex detection. The Mexican-hat wavelet and complex Morlet wavelet are used to transform the ECG signal, and according to the trait that the modulus maxima of the two wavelet coefficients above correspond with R peaks of ECG signal, a detect...

A Damage Detection Algorithm Using the Morlet Wavelet Transform∗

In this paper, a damage detection algorithm based on the Morlet wavelet transform of the vibration signal is presented. In the rst part of the paper, an expression for the energies of wavelet coe cients (damage sensitive feature vectors) using the Morlet wavelet basis is derived for a multi-degree of freedom system. It is shown that the energies of the wavelet coe cients extracted at higher sca...
